University System of Maryland Dissertation House at SSI, August 14-15, 2014


The University of Maryland, College Park  and PROMISE Maryland’s AGEP are sponsoring a system-wide Dissertation House for graduate students in STEM programs.  The writing and research retreat will take place at the Hotel at Arundel Preserve.   Lodging for 2 nights and meals are provided for student participants.   Twelve students from the USM system schools will be chosen to participate in this research and writing retreat.

  • 8/14  6-9 pm  Introduction to DH, Dinner Meeting
  • 8/14 9-11  pm Work Session
  • 8/15  9-6  pm DH Sessions, Work Session, Breakfast and Lunch
  • 8/15 6-8 pm Dinner Meeting

This event is part of the PROMISE Summer Success Institute. Following the Dissertation House sessions on Thursday and Friday, all participants will be required to continue participation in the PROMISE SSI on Saturday, August 16 at The Hotel at Arundel Preserve:

Dr. Renetta Garrison Tull is the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at the University of California Davis. She previously served as Associate Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives at The Graduate School at UMBC, and was Professor of the Practice in the College of Engineering & IT. She was Special Assistant to the Sr. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs & Director of Graduate and Professional Pipeline Development for the University System of Maryland (12 institutions). She is the Founding Director of PROMISE: Maryland’s Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) –, and Co-PI for the USM LSAMP. Her research on global diversity in STEM continues, and she is an international speaker, covering nearly all continents, for groups and conferences such as the World Engineering Education Forum, the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies, and the Pacific Sciences Congress.
