Dr. Allen Cox

Allen Cox, Managing Director of the Maryland Coalition for Financial Literacy and Stock Market GameTM Coordinator, has spent over forty-five years in the field of education. He taught Advanced Placement Economics, Entrepreneurship, Applied Economics, and US History in Prince George’s County for twenty-seven years and then worked an additional six years as the High School Assessment Specialist and later the ESOL Testing Coordinator for the Prince George’s County Public Schools.

After retiring from the Prince George’s County Public Schools in 2005, Dr. Cox became the Managing Director for the Maryland Coalition for Financial Literacy. In that role, he is responsible for furthering the cause of financial education in Maryland schools, fund-raising and providing professional development for teachers responsible for teaching financial education. Dr. Cox currently serves on the Maryland Financial Education and Capability Commission as well as personal finance education advisory boards for the Maryland State Department of Education, Montgomery County National Academy and the Prince George’s County National Academy.

Dr. Cox holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies Education, a Master’s of Science in Social Studies Education from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Ph.D in Economics and Education Policy from George Washington University. He resides with his wife in Owings Mills, Maryland and is the father of three sons and the grandfather of three grandsons.
